AI and Responsible Use of Technology

At Community Legal Western Australia (CLWA), we use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support some aspects of our work, such as drafting, research, administration and communication.

We recognise that AI can create opportunities for innovation and improved efficiency, but it also presents risks that must be carefully managed.

Our use of AI is guided by a principles-based Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy. This policy helps ensure that our use of AI reflects our values of collaboration, integrity, innovation and courage, while protecting privacy, confidentiality and trust.

We do not use AI to make decisions on behalf of people. AI may assist our work, but human judgement, accountability and oversight remain essential. CLWA workers are responsible for reviewing and approving any AI-assisted work before it is used.

We take privacy and confidentiality seriously. Personal, sensitive and confidential information is not entered into public AI tools, and we take steps to ensure AI is used safely and responsibly.

We are committed to being transparent about our use of AI and to regularly reviewing our practices as technology evolves.
