Women’s Legal Service WA

Women’s Legal Service WA is a gender-specific CLC providing a range of socio-legal support services to women around WA. WLSWA prioritises women who are financially disadvantaged and experiencing family, domestic, and sexual violence. Many of these women have complex unmet needs that create significant barriers to accessing justice.

WLSWA aims to empower and educate women to know their legal rights and make informed legal choices to achieve just outcomes. As a specialist legal service, WLSWA complements the work of generalist CLCs.

Eligibility

Women’s Legal Service WA (WLSWA) supports cis and trans women, and non-binary people comfortable in women’s spaces.

Services

WLSWA provides legal information, advice and representation, where we have capacity, in the areas of family law, child protection and care matters, family and domestic violence and criminal injuries compensation claims that have resulted from Family and Domestic Voilence (FDV) and sexual assault. Interpreters are available to assist women where English is not their first or preferred language.

Other WLSWA program areas include the Sexual Assault Legal Service WA and Working Women’s Centre WA.

The specialised legal services provided by WLSWA ensure that women can access a single legal service, that is responsive to their different legal needs.

WLSWA works with the person, aiming to respond to women’s unique unmet legal needs in context of their whole lives. Our assistance also includes financial counselling and client support work to ensure an integrated and coordinated response that is tailored to her unique needs.

In addition to socio-legal services, and as a specialist Community Legal Centre, WLSWA engages in strategic activities in law and policy reform and sector capacity building, aimed at improving outcomes for women in the justice system and beyond.
