  • AFLS provides both free specialist legal assistance and non-legal support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people experiencing, or at risk of, family violence and sexual assault.
  • Through a holistic service delivery model, which includes prevention and education initiatives, aimed at supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to live free from family and domestic violence and sexual assault.


  • Legal advice and information in relation to: 
    • Assistance with Family Law in relation to child matters
    • Advice and representation in relation to Child Protection & Family Support
    • Lodgement and assistance with Family Violence Restraining Orders
    • Assistance with Criminal Injuries Compensation in relation to family violence and sexual abuse
  • Client support in relation to family violence and sexual abuse
  • Court representation on family violence and sexual assault matters
  • Advocacy and assistance with completion and lodgement of legal documents
  • Information on some general law matters
  • Community awareness groups/development
  • Community legal education
  • Outreach to regional towns and communities
