Regional housing crunch impacting domestic violence services offered by community legal services

Thanks to Oliver Lane and the The West Australian for highlighting important issues around regional housing and community legal services. Legal need is rising in regional, rural and remote areas and services are now having to turn away 14 people, for every 10 people they can help.  

As CLWA CEO Chelsea says in the article “People in regional areas experience legal need at greater rates, so they’re more likely to have a legal problem than their metropolitan counterparts and are less likely to be able to afford private legal help.” 

Fantastic organisations like Jo Collins and the team at Pilbara Community Legal Services are working to help as many people as possible, but they need increased sustainable funding and help to address housing challenges so they can attract and keep staff.
